Real-world history

A 100-metre-deep dry valley in the South Downs, cut by meltwater and erosion at the end of the last Ice Age, with an Iron Age hillfort on its rim. It was a busy Victorian attraction and is now cared for by the National Trust. Gladiator II reshoots in June 2024 filmed Roman troops on the downland here for the film's late battle.
