Real-world history

The largest fort in Malta, built by the Knights at the mouth of Grand Harbour. Season 1 dressed its monumental gate as the King’s Gate / Gate of the Gods of the Red Keep. The site is still an active film lot (Troy, Gladiator extras) and is often closed.

Logistics & accessibility

Admission: Usually closed to casual visitors. Harbour cruises and some Valletta viewpoints give the best public look. Occasional open days / film-set tours.

Parking & accessibility: Limited public parking in Kalkara village; better to view from a Grand Harbour boat.

Best time to visit: Any clear day from the water. Combine with a Three Cities or Valletta harbour tour.
