Real-world history
The fort at the tip of Birgu was the Order of St John's headquarters during the Great Siege of 1565 and later served the Royal Navy as HMS St Angelo. Heritage Malta reopened it after a restoration completed in 2015.
Logistics & accessibility
Admission: Heritage Malta museum with paid entry; check the current opening hours. The upper fort belongs to the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and is not part of the visit.
Parking & accessibility: Car parks along the Vittoriosa Yacht Marina (Xatt Juan B. Azopardo); ferry from Valletta.
Best time to visit: Late afternoon for harbour views back to Valletta.
