Real-world history

An 18th-century star fort built by the Knights of St John on Manoel Island to guard Marsamxett Harbour. Its central piazza was dressed as the plaza of the Great Sept of Baelor for Season 1.

Logistics & accessibility

Admission: The island walk is free. Interior courtyard access is irregular (occasional open days / events); check MIDI plc / local listings. Best viewed from the glacis, the Gżira footbridge, or Upper Barrakka Gardens across the harbour.

Parking & accessibility: Street parking in Gżira near the Manoel Island bridge; park-and-walk 10–15 minutes. Valletta multi-storeys if combining with the capital.

Best time to visit: October–May for cooler walking weather. Early morning for empty walls and harbour light.
