Real-world history
Vilhena Gate (1724) is the Baroque landward entrance to Mdina, Malta’s silent former capital. In Season 1 the walled hill town stood in for King’s Landing streets and the main city gate before production moved to Dubrovnik.
Logistics & accessibility
Admission: The gate and old city streets are free to walk. Mdina Cathedral and Palazzo Falson charge separately.
Parking & accessibility: Paid car parks just outside the walls (Saqqajja / Howard Gardens). Do not drive into Mdina.
Best time to visit: Early morning or late afternoon; midday tour groups pack the gate. Shoulder seasons (Apr–May, Oct) beat summer heat.
