Fort Manoel and Marsamxett Harbour

Fort Manoel, an 18th-century star fort guarding Marsamxett Harbour, has had three big roles: the plaza of the Great Sept of Baelor in Game of Thrones Season 1, where Ned Stark confesses; courtyards in Assassin's Creed (2016), whose rooftop chases also used Valletta; and part of Gladiator II (2024).

The stops

  1. Fort Manoel — The island walk is free. The interior courtyard opens only on occasional open days.
  2. Valletta / Upper Barrakka Gardens — Valletta, across the water, for Assassin's Creed's rooftops.

Planning it

Park in Gżira near the Manoel Island bridge and walk 10 to 15 minutes. The glacis and the footbridge give the best views of the walls.
